The Black Keys-Dan Auerbach

Happy Hello Friends!

Today I'm sharing a sketch of Dan Auerbach.  I created this in my sketchbook using "Prisma" colored pencils and some "Tattered Angels" High Impact paint....The High Impact paint is awesome and is available at Canvas Corp Brands (My new creative crew gig)....I have been straying off the beaten path lately when it comes to "scrapbook" design......I'm always up for a creative challenge and this project has been quite challenging....Probably my most challenging to date.

My favorite band right now is the Black Keys...I have always loved all kinds of music but this band "in my opinion" has phenomenal talent!  I particularly love their older music which has a "bluesy" raw sound from the 60's/70's era. I'm learning something new every time I create paintings/sketching's....I should NOT have used paint in this sketchbook but I had to get the fine details a close as possible....I will do future "mixed media" illustration in the appropriate sketch pad...

I start of by lightly sketching and filling in the details with "Prisma" colored pencils.....I knew the hardest part to work on was the guitar.  I added some "fine" details using a "Sharpie" Micro Pen....

The vibrant red paint you see in the background and on his guitar strap is "Tattered Angels" Red - High Impact paint....I LOVE it!!!
As you can see above and below, I have not worked on the guitar strings yet.  I still have to touch up on the "outline" details of the guitar and add shadows and highlights to his hands....
Here I'm adding more details to the guitar and "still" fine tuning his hands and adding some highlights...I still have to "perfect" those strings...And add the gadgets to the bottom of the guitar.....Some details are off but it's all about having FUN....
His shirt, jeans, beard, hair, face, jacket is mostly colored pencil ( I kept layering color on color for vibrancy)....I added light "paint" details over his hair and jacket....
I used a micro pen to outline his "tooled" leather belt details and the studs on his guitar strap....The guitar gadgets are done in pencil and paint....
Here is the finished project.....I'm sitting on the floor with the sketchbook on my feet to give you and idea of the size.

Have a great day!
