EXOTIC NAOMI

Happy Hello Friends!

Today I finished up on a pencil/ink/painting in my mixed media sketchbook....
Those of you that have been following me on instagram saw I became a little frustrated at one point of this project.....Pencils weren't quite working out for me so I almost threw in the towel....I decided to go over the pencil work with oils.....Yep, I'm back to oils and I'm so glad I made that choice.....I love working with oil paints! Thick vibrant colors and easy to manipulate...I actually tried a "dry" brush effect to her face and I was happy with the results...
Above I'm letting "teal green" watercolor drip from her eye....Like a teardrop.
Below I am lightly stippling white titanium oil paint....I wanted to create a light/feathery effect....
Next I'm adding yellow oil paint with a feather....Almost looking like fringes and feathers are hanging from a swirl medallion....But then again it can be whatever your imagination wants it to be......
Here is a collage showing the beginning pencil work to the stage where I was adding detail to the "below" butterfly....
I ALWAYS paint from actual images....I like to make my work "somewhat" realistic....I then go in and add details/colors from imagination....

My inspiration for this painting was:
I always thought Naomi Campbell was/is stunningly beautiful!  She has an exotic look that is unique.  I can see why she is a photographers dream!
Thank you for stopping by!

  1. Oh wow, she is a beauty. I'd say, the best part is the nose. The shading is mad beautiful. Oil paints are and will be the king of all paints, yes?! I have a box of those and a few tubes of Liquin Impasto under the sink - waiting for the better days I guess ... .;) Oil pastels would also suit your ,,hand writing,,!!!;);) Tried Sennelier Oil Pastels? All other brands are a joke near those little wonders!!:) All the best!

    1. Yes, I agree, Kris....I'm back to Oils and I'm staying! This is the first time I mixed watercolors for the background work....I'm liking mixing both....Oil pastels are great too....I have a thing with "blending" so anything with oil works great!!...Thank you so much, Kris!! Much appreciated!

She is really stunning - her features - her eyebrows look so real and, her eyes, oh my gosh - her eyes are beyond gorgeous - she is definitely an exotic beauty.
